How will tidal lagoons impact water quality?
Summary of the Research Question / Evidence Need:
Identify the approach and techniques that may be used to quantify the impacts of tidal lagoons on water quality receptors. Some questions to consider include:
How will lagoons impact turbidity, salinity, temperature, nutrients, dissolved oxygen, bacterial concentrations and phytoplankton communities both inside and outside the lagoon?
How will lagoons impact the dispersion of discharges from 3rd party assets such as trade effluents and sewage discharges
Next steps and progress: Contract and/or research

Impact of urban biodiversity on the economic growth and sustainability of a city – a case of tropical Indonesian cities
Summary of the Research Question / Evidence Need:
This research intends to find the impact of urban biodiversity on a city’s economic growth and sustainability. It will show how urban biodiversity affects various economic growth and sustainability metrics (employment levels, carbon emissions, air quality index, population growth, infrastructure development, etc.) of tropical cities in Indonesia. Moreover, it will show how urban authorities in Indonesia maintain biodiversity and take advantage of it. Lastly, it will recommend learning from Indonesia to increase their urban biodiversity and sustainability.

Integrated outcomes
Summary of the Research Question / Evidence Need:
Flood and coastal erosion risk management is inter-disciplinary and can provide multiple and integrated outcomes for society, the economy and the environment.
Our research activities will support us to:
8.1 – solve existing and emerging environmental issues using solutions from different disciplines
8.2 – use nature-based solutions that reduce flooding and coastal erosion and provide benefits for people and the environment
8.3 – understand the effects of flooding and coastal change on rural places to improve resilience
8.4 – understand and improve how social equity and health impacts are considered when managing flood and coastal risks
Further information is available on the joint programme webpage: https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/flood-and-coastal-erosion-risk-management-research-and-development-programme/about
If you would like to contact the programme to share information on how your work relates, or if you want to hear from the programme team when a new research activity is starting, use the areas of research interest form: https://forms.office.com/e/PALmAmETZ2

Investigate the threat of contaminants of emerging concern in groundwater
Summary of the Research Question / Evidence Need:
We want to determine the current scale of the problem – where in Wales they appear most and why. This would include:
