In this free, online event the Royal Meteorological Society will take a dive into the World of a Meteorologist who is early on in their career. They will explore the barriers they have faced as an early career person, challenges within the role, but also what experiences and opportunities they had had along the way. This session will also allow for some Q&A time.
Jonathan Vautrey, Met Office
As a member of the Met Office’s Media Services Team, Jonathan will share his experience of learning to work with weather presenters at media outlets including ITV, STV and Sky, as well as how the Met Office communicates Meteorology to the public through video broadcasts and social media output. There will also be insight on becoming an early career Meteorologist during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Zoe Foister, Met Office
Zoe’s experience in Defence is another career pathway with the Met Offce as an Op Met, and she will be discussing how working at various overseas locations has moulded and shaped her as a forecaster and team leader. From qualifying as an Op Met in the U.K, becoming a SOM in Akrotiri, and leading a team as S Met O in the Falklands Islands, Zoe will share some of the highlights of her Met Office career.
The event will be chaired by Regan Mudhar, PhD Student, University of Exeter and Chair of the RMetS Early Career Special Interest Group.
Registration is now open on the RMetS Website. Registration for this event is available virtually. The event will be hosted virtually on Zoom.
