Welsh Government PhD placement – A Literature review of welfare implications, biosecurity practices, and disease preparedness in the gamebird breeding and rearing sector

The Welsh Government’s Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer is offering a 3-month PhD placement (possible extension) to conduct a literature review on gamebird breeding and rearing practices, focusing on:
• Welfare implications across production systems
• Biosecurity standards and gaps
• Disease preparedness, including lessons from recent avian influenza outbreaks

You’ll work across the Animal Welfare Policy and Animal Disease Policy teams, gaining hands-on experience in evidence-based policymaking, networking with senior officials, and producing recommendations to inform future Welsh Government policy.

Eligibility: UK-based PhD students with supervisor approval. Funded and required-placement options available.
