Karen will be providing an introduction to and update on the Welsh Government’s Noise and Soundscape Action Plan, which aims to create appropriate soundscapes, which is defined as the right acoustic environment in the right time and place. Jonathan Pickering will then share recent insights from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Report on Noise Complaint Data, including data from the 22 Welsh Local Authorities.

Karen Fulford has worked for the Welsh Government for over 18 years, beginning in communications before moving into policy roles across Rural Affairs, Transport and Health. She is currently the Senior Local Air Quality, Noise and Soundscapes Policy Manager, responsible for the Noise and Soundscapes Plan – the first national soundscapes policy. Karen will outline the plan’s ambition for appropriate soundscapes in Wales and the progress made toward achieving its objectives.
Jonathan Pickering is a Policy and Public Affairs Professional focused on Public and Environmental Health at the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH). He will be presenting about a Review of Noise Complaint Data in Wales. His principle policy and advocacy areas with CIEH are Noise and Nuisance, English Devolution and Local Government Reorganisation. He also work on wider areas including Public Health, Environmental Protection and Air Quality.
