This session explores how collaborative, interdisciplinary research can address the intersecting challenges of climate change, gender equity, and technological innovation. Drawing on the British Council-funded initiative connecting UK and Moroccan researchers, the speakers will reflect on project experiences, cross-cultural mentorship, and lessons learned in co-developing scalable solutions for climate resilience.
About the Speakers
Dr Issam Damaj is a Senior Lecturer and Head of Department in Computer Science at Cardiff School of Technologies, Cardiff Metropolitan University, and Co-Director of Centre for Engineering Research on Intelligent Sensors and Systems (CeRISS). His expertise spans embedded systems, smart technologies, and engineering education. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from London South Bank University and has served in academic roles in Lebanon, Kuwait, and Oman. Dr Damaj is a Senior Member of IEEE and IET, with over 100 research publications and multiple awards for academic excellence. 🔗 www.idamaj.net
Dr Loubna Mekouar is an Assistant Professor at the College of Computing, UM6P (Morocco). Her research focuses on peer-to-peer systems, trust and reputation management, and computing education. She holds a PhD from the University of Waterloo (Canada) and an MSc from the University of Montreal. Dr Mekouar has held previous academic positions in the UAE and Oman and is a Senior IEEE Member and Fellow of Advance HE (UK).
Dr Youssef Iraqi is an Associate Professor at the College of Computing, UM6P (Morocco). He leads work on intelligent and secure network systems. His background includes roles in academia and industry, with expertise in 5G/6G, AI for networks, and edge-cloud computing. Dr Iraqi is actively engaged in developing scalable tech-driven solutions for emerging challenges.
