Circular Economy Hotspot Cymru 2024

Wales will host the European Circular Economy Hotspot between 7-9 October 2024. Delegate passes are available on a first come, first served basis, priced at £150+VAT.

The European Circular Economy Hotspot is an annual event that began in the Netherlands in 2016. Each year, it is hosted in a different location known for its exemplary practices and innovations in the circular economy. Previous hosts have included Dublin, Bottrop, Catalonia, Belgium, Scotland and Luxembourg.

Circular Economy Hotspot Cymru 2024 will take place in Cardiff on 7-9 October. It will be an event for all sectors, across industry, business, public sector, academia, and third sector and communities. Circular Economy Hotspot Cymru 2024 is a unique opportunity to gain valuable insights from Wales, showcasing how the wellbeing of future generations is prioritised in decision-making. We will demonstrate how Wales is transitioning from a traditional, extractive use-and-dispose society to a more sustainable, circular economy. We look forward to welcoming attendees from Wales and internationally, for this opportunity to share our circular economy solutions and ambitions in Wales, learn from our international visitors, build relationships and opportunities for collaboration.

Why Wales?
Wales is recognised globally for its recycling achievements, ranking second best in the world and continues to innovate with its Beyond Recycling strategy. This strategy focuses on embedding circular economy principles in production, reduction in consumption, promotion of reuse and repair and food waste prevention. These efforts underpin Wales’ ambition to de-carbonise and achieve net-zero and zero-waste status by 2050.

Programme outline
The event will begin with an opening reception at the National Museum in Cardiff, featuring a welcome address, networking opportunities, and a showcase of local Welsh
culture through food, drink and entertainment.

The main conference will take place at the National Cricket Centre, Sophia Gardens, with sessions including keynote speakers, panel discussions and case studies that highlight Wales’ successful recycling journey and its broader transition to a green economy.

There will also be themed breakout sessions and interactive workshops, covering topics such as behaviour change, innovation and public sector engagement. The conference dinner will be held at the Principality Stadium, with further networking opportunities with local entertainment and Welsh cuisine.

The conference will underscore the critical role of circular economy practices in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and will feature examples of a collaborative, partnership-led approach toward meeting these goals. Attendees will be encouraged to network extensively across sectors and borders, sharing ideas and
best practices to drive the global transition to a circular economy.
